Rolling for Warriors event to benefit veterans | Community Spirit
Rolling for Warriors is a fundraiser that will be held on Saturday, March 24 to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Albany County Veteran’s Services Bureau.
The Capital District Irish American Association, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Albany Democratic Committee announced the fundraiser that will take place at Playdium Bowling Center located at 363 Ontario Street in Albany. The event will begin at 1 p.m. Live music, a silent auction and an awards ceremony at the AOH Hall next door will follow bowling.
According to a statement, Rolling for Warriors was created in 2009 by Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran Andrew Joyce to rally Albany’s political and Irish-American community around a good cause.
“I feel it’s the highest duty of any American to do what they can to care for these men and women, as well as their families, when they return home with wounds both seen and unseen,” said Joyce in a statement. “Part of the healing process begins by showing them how much we care, and appreciate the sacrifices they have made.”
Since 2006, Rolling for Warriors has raised over $6,000 for veteran’s service related groups and this year’s goal is $10,000.
