Albany's Memorial Day Parade | Community Spirit

A musical tribute marched through the streets of Albany as families cheered, and children waved flags as they just start to grasp the importance of this day.

One man stood out the most; he marched the three miles wearing a bomb suit.

Derek John Farley was killed while trying to disarm a bomb in Afghanistan in 2010.

His mom, Carrie Farley, was the grand marshal of the parade.

Not only a celebration, but also a learning experience. Bob Carey of Rensselaer is a veteran of the Navy. He brought his granddaughter to the parade.

One year old Jonathan Yu, who was born in China held an American flag, as his dad John talked about the importance of teaching his son about memorial day.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy marched not only as county leader, but also as veteran, he served in Iraq.

The message here today, give thanks to those who have served, think of those still serving, and remember those who died while serving.
