ALBANY - Albany police are investigating a potential phone scam in which a caller identifies himself as a police officer.

Police say the man tells the person on the other line that “there is an open investigation on them in which they owe money.”

Police say a woman living on Knox Street received several calls. The caller apparently knew her social security number, e-mail address and work phone number.

Police say never give out your personal information. Legitimate businesses will never ask for such information.
