Woman charged with smuggling after search | Crime

A Troy woman is in the Albany County Jail, accused of trying smuggle drugs into the facility.

The sheriff's department says Michelle Richards, 33, was being processed into the facility when officials found a hypodermic needle and seven bags of heroin hidden on her body.

Richards was being processed into the facility on charges of misdemeanor possession. Albany Sheriff Craig Apple says those charges will now be upgraded to felonies.
