Governor Cuomo announced Thursday FreshConnect grants to 34 projects around the state that will help increase access to New York farm products for residents in low-income and underserved areas.

"This is really a win-win situation for farmers and for families across the state as we try to provide more access and easier access to locally grown, fresh farm products," said Governor Cuomo in a statement. "These FreshConnect grants will support creative solutions to get New York farm products to underserved areas of the state, creating new economic opportunities for our farmers while, at the same time, providing healthy options for more New Yorkers."

Less than two weeks left to register for FEMA disaster aid

New York State and federal officials are reminding those who were affected by tropical storm Irene that they have less than two weeks left to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for possible federal disaster assistance.

It's important that those who may need to register for aid do so as soon as possible. Registrations cannot be accepted after the October 31 deadline.

"Registration keeps open the possibility of a wide range of assistance," said Philip E. Parr, FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer in a statement. "If your insurance coverage comes up short, or other damage appears later, you need to be registered with FEMA to be considered for disaster assistance."
