Dogs abandoned in U-Haul truck up for adoption

MENANDS - Two out of four dogs left out in a parked U-Haul truck in below freezing temperatures last month are ready for new homes.

Gavin and Neve are both pit bull mixes.

The dogs were brought to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society after being found in a locked truck parked at a Colonie Motel.

The other two dogs are going to foster homes.

Their owner, Anthony Walker, was charged with animal cruelty. Police say he is the same man charged in connection with the railroad puppies case.

Railroad puppies suspect accused of abusing more dogs

COLONIE - A man already caught up in accusations he abused puppies is now facing new charges of animal abuse.

Colonie police say Anthony Walker of Albany left four dogs locked in a U-Haul truck in the frigid weather. They say the dogs were emaciated when they found them.

Walker is the same man who was charged earlier this month in connection with three puppies found injured near some railroad tracks in Albany. One of those dogs died and another lost a paw.

Now police say Walker is responsible for the dogs found locked in the cargo space of a rental truck parked at the Super 8 motel on Central Avenue.

The dogs were taken to the Capital District Animal Emergency Clinic for treatment.

Arrest made in connection to railroad puppies case

ALBANY - An Albany man has been arrested in connection with the railroad puppies case.

Police arrested 30-year-old Anthony Walker of South Swan Street on Jan. 14.

The only information being released is that Walker was charged with one count of abandonment of a disabled animal.

Back in September a railroad worker found the three puppies near North Pearl Street and Broadway.

It was first believed someone may have nailed two of the puppies to the tracks and cut off a paw of the third dog. Police now say what actually happened wasn't "how it was initially portrayed."

The smallest dog died of its injuries.

Two surviving dogs have since been treated and adopted.

Railroad puppy gets prosthetic paw

MENANDS - Hudson and Pearl were being normally rambunctious puppies at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society Monday.

But it was no ordinary day. Hudson was getting a new paw, and even his doctor is a little nervous.

"The challenge is fitting this prosthetic in front of all you people hoping he likes it and doesn't chew it off initially," said Dr. Tom Bowersox, an Amsterdam veterinarian.

Hudson is one the three puppies found on railroad tracks in Albany back in September. Investigators said someone cut off Hudson's back paw and may have driven nails through the paws of two other dogs. One of the puppies died. Pearl is missing two toes. Police are still searching for who is behind it.

Railroad puppy getting prosthetic paw

MENANDS - One of the surviving "railroad puppies" is getting a prosthetic paw.

The first mold for the prosthesis was made for Hudson this morning.

He's one of three pit bull puppies found on the railroad tracks at North Pearl Street in Albany.

Authorities say someone may have nailed two of the dogs to the tracks and cut off a paw of the third dog.

The smallest puppy died.

Hudson lost his back left paw.

Veterinarian Dr. Tom Bowersox says the prosthetic limb will help Hudson live a normal life.

There is a $7,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who abused the puppies.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Albany Police.

Three kittens found in laundry basket in Troy

TROY - Troy police say three kittens were found in a laundry basket near Ida and Third Streets.

A concerned citizen first found the kittens and called police.

Police say it appears someone tried to cover the basket with a garbage bag.

Officers brought the cats to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands.

Police say pet owners who cannot care for their animals should drop them off at a local shelter or police department.
