More than 1,000 people, including children, adults and families from throughout upstate New York came to the College of Nanoscale Science’s Community Day this weekend.

Tours of the state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities at CNSE’s $6.5 billion Albany NanoTech Complex along with presentations, interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities highlighted CNSE Community Day.

Students show support for victims of domestic violence

Students and faculty at the College of Saint Rose in Albany are encouraged to wear purple today, for victims of domestic violence.

There will also be a display of decorated shoes to tell the story of domestic violence survivors.

Renowned author speaks at UAlbany

ALBANY - The author of the book inspiring the academy award winning film Precious is speaking at the University of Albany tonight.

The author named Sapphire will speak, among other things, on the topical issues addressed in the movie: obesity, sexual abuse and aids, and poverty.

Sapphire speaks to an informal seminar at 4:15 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus, and then at 8 p.m. at Page Hall on the downtown campus.

New clinic helps tenants with foreclosure problems

ALBANY - Renters and tenants are also getting caught in the tough economy through no fault of their own. They sometimes get evicted when their landlord defaults and gets foreclosed on.

Albany Law School launched a Tenant Foreclosure Protection Clinic" today offering free legal services to renters in the capital region facing foreclosure.

"Tenants often do not know their rights in a foreclosure process," said state Assemblymman Jack McEneny in a statement. "This new clinic will help educate these residents, as well as help them to exercise their rights, a sorely needed service given the rate of foreclosure today."
